Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the developer ("we", "us") handles, uses, and shares information when you use the Oria macOS app (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Who we are
The App is developed and operated by an individual developer. For privacy-related inquiries, contact support@yururon.app.
If disclosure of the provider's name, address, or similar information is required under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other applicable laws, we will respond without undue delay upon request, after reasonable identity verification.
2. Information we handle
The App handles only the minimum information needed to provide its features. The App has no account registration of its own, and we do not collect personal information such as your name or email address.
2.1 Library data (stored in your own iCloud)
The books and documents you import into the App (EPUB / PDF / Markdown), their metadata, and translation results are stored in the iCloud storage associated with your own Apple ID and synced across your devices.
This data is stored in your account on Apple's infrastructure. It is never sent to our servers, and we cannot access it.
2.2 Information sent when you use cloud AI and translation features
If you subscribe to the paid plan (Oria Premium) and choose a cloud AI provider (OpenAI or Google Gemini), the following information is sent to the selected AI provider — to the extent necessary to perform the request — via a relay server we operate (Cloudflare Workers) when you use the AI chat or translation features:
- The title of the book or document
- The range you are reading (page, chapter, etc.) and its body text
- The prompts you enter and your chat history
The relay server only forwards requests and enforces rate limits. It does not store or log the body text or your prompts.
For rate limiting (preventing excessive requests), an anonymous identifier (UUID) generated per installation is attached to each request. This identifier is never linked to your Apple ID, name, email address, or any other personal information.
OpenAI and Google state that content submitted via their APIs is not used to train their models by default. For details, please review each provider's policy listed in "4. Third-party services".
2.3 Usage data (opt-in)
The App uses TelemetryDeck, an anonymous usage-analytics service, to improve its features. Sending usage data is disabled by default and occurs only if you explicitly enable "Send anonymous usage data" in the settings screen.
Only anonymous event information is sent, such as feature-usage counts and categories (for example, the file format of an opened document, a rough page-count range, and the type of translation or chat feature used). Free-form text such as book titles, body text, and chat content is never sent — this is enforced by design.
2.4 Information we do not collect
- We do not access your location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera.
- We do not show ads and do not use advertising identifiers.
- We do not automatically collect crash reports or other diagnostic data.
- We do not perform behavioral profiling that identifies individuals.
3. How we use information
The information described above is used only for the following purposes:
- Providing the cloud AI and translation features
- Rate limiting and preventing abuse
- Improving the App based on anonymous usage data (only if you opt in)
We do not sell personal information.
4. Third-party services
The App uses the following third-party services. Each service operates under its own privacy policy.

We send information to these third-party services only to the extent necessary to provide the App. When selecting third-party services, we verify that data is handled in a manner consistent with this policy, applicable laws, and App Store requirements.
5. On-device AI and translation
AI features on the free plan, and AI chat and translation when you select on-device AI in the settings, are processed entirely on your device using Apple's on-device technologies (Apple Foundation Models / Apple Translation). The content of your documents is never sent off your device.
6. Data retention
- We do not operate any server that stores your documents or chat content. Your library data is stored only on your devices and in your own iCloud, and you can delete it yourself at any time.
- Retention of content sent to AI providers when you use cloud AI is governed by each provider's policy (see "4. Third-party services").
- Anonymous usage data you have opted in to send is retained by TelemetryDeck as anonymous statistics.
- The anonymous rate-limiting identifier is stored on your device and is removed when you delete the App.
7. Your rights
You can do the following at any time:
- Disable anonymous usage data in the settings screen (it is disabled by default).
- Use the App with on-device AI only, without using cloud AI.
- Delete your library data at any time, either within the App or from iCloud Drive.
Subject to applicable laws, you may have the right to request disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use, or suspension of third-party provision of your personal data held by us. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, rectification, and data portability under applicable laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address above. We will respond in accordance with applicable laws after reasonable identity verification.
8. Children's privacy
The App is not primarily directed at children of any specific age group. If you are a minor, please use the App with the consent of a parent or legal guardian and under their supervision.
We do not knowingly collect more personal information from children than necessary. If you are a parent or guardian and wish to review, delete, or restrict the use of your child's information, please contact us. We will respond in accordance with applicable laws after reasonable verification.
9. International data transfers
The third-party services used by the App (Apple, Cloudflare, OpenAI, Google, and TelemetryDeck) may process data in countries or regions outside Japan.
We review the privacy policies, security information, and contractual terms published by these third-party services and use them only to the extent necessary to provide the App. If you have questions about international data transfers, please contact us.
10. Security
We employ industry-standard security measures, including TLS encryption in transit and access control and authentication on the relay server. AI provider API keys are never stored on your device; they are managed on our relay server. However, no service can guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest revision date is shown as the "Effective date" at the top. If we make material changes, we will notify you within the App or by other appropriate means.
